Looking back, all that I see is your face,
mired by all of your thorns.
I cannot say why I ever loved you
But I'm glad I learned what I know now:

I loved you too long,
loved you too long.
My blood churned with lust for your companionship.
Invisible to you just ten steps away,
I learned what I'm glad I know now:

I loved you too long, loved you too long.
May I take solace in a future--
one without you.
Without you.

Lashed to my neck was a leash made of thorns
thriving on your approval.
I was lost, last to leave seeing that I was scorned,
For all knew what I now know:

I loved you too long, loved you too long,
drew wretched life from your odious sighs.
I hoped things would change, but knew they would not
and accepted what now is the truth:

I loved you too long, loved you too long.
May I take solace in a future--
one without you.
Without you.
For nearly six months I hoped that my ex of two years would love me again. I operated in a state of constant discomfort, constant need. I hoped she would love me again, realize why we fell in love in the first place.
I loved her too long.
May I take solace in a future without someone who would allow me to writhe in their presence.
